how about doing away with pre-pressed cds in stores? does anyone care about the cd as a medium? vinyl has it's intrinsic value over digital media, but once in the digital realm, what does an $18 store bought CD offer over one you burn at home on a blank cd that costs 25 cents?
clearly we are on the right track with the advent of MP3 downloads. I think some of our older set are still really into the tactile / tangible nature of CDs. I actually really miss liner notes, myself. It always seems to take time to figure out personnel on digital records (anyone who has a good resource/trick for finding that info online - hook me up!). Remember back in the day when we switched from Vinyl to CDs and the record company made those big, dorky boxes for the discs so they'd be the same size as LPs? Duh.
Oh, and those ipod batteries are lame. They last for a couple years and then *poof!* Bye bye. Maybe we should call up Steve Jobs and see what his genius team is up to on that front. I know Apple is working on improvements, but it can't hurt them that folks need to go out and get a replacement every couple of years....
That aside, we've come a long way, baby. But I think our biggest issue is live concerts. Some tour operator should get with an ECO-agenda....Bands would be all ovah that. Going to a big concert event like glastonbury or lollapalooza is an eco nightmare. But sooo fun. I think we def gotta build a bettah mousetrap on that one.
Oh, so how about itunes ending rights-managed downloads????
That is HUGE for the eco-movement! Don'tcha think? More reasons to go digital over buying the CD you can copy over and over again. And making the classics a mere 69 (naughty!) cents will go a long way to encourage folks to buy the old standbys in digi format. Sweet!
