Bio
In 2002, Rainforest Native’s Co-Founder, a cultural anthropology student set out on a life changing journey deep into the Amazon Rainforest. His travels took him into the southern Amazon states of Rondonia, Acre, and Amazonas where he went to study indigenous cultures. When he arrived in the villages he became amazed by how the natives adorned their bodies with elements of nature. He saw indigenous people using materials such as seeds, bones, leaves, and other natural fibers for many different purposes. In some cases a seed necklace would be used to ward off evil spirits, while others were worn for women to attract a mate, or to increase fertility. In many cases the seeds were worn for appearance and as a life giving force. While living in the rain forest Christian healed himself of a life threatening case of Malaria using plants that were given to him by the medicine men or Shamans. After gaining his health back he vowed to dedicate his life to saving the Amazon rain forests. Christian later met his wife Erika who is a native Brazilian and they set off on a journey to the United States bringing two duffle bags of fair trade ecological jewelry with them. They began selling at Farmer’s Markets all over San Diego and Los Angeles Counties. With time the product became popular and people could not get enough of the beautiful botanical jewelry. Today, Rainforest Native continues to sell its jewelry through natural foods stores, boutiques, and gift shops across the US and Canada. The company’s mission continues to be rooted in philanthropy, raising money from the sale of its jewelry and giving back to rainforest conservation. The following organizations are current philanthropic partners of Rainforest Native: WWF, Conservation International, Rainforest Foundation, Amazon Conservation Team, and Rainforest Alliance. "The following organizations have received 100% of the proceeds from the sale of our exclusive Rainforest Bracelets": Alliance for Climate Protection (now called We Can Solve It), founded by Al Gore World Wildlife Fund
