Thank YOU to ALL who have contributed, shared and given on many levels to the Cofán and project! There is much work to be done with the Cofán project and this is just the beginning. Collected and extra funds will help continue the work to fully generate a sustainable income in the coming years. The are many areas that the extra contributions can also help. Specializing in custom clothing made with organic and natural materials, and reused garments. Each piece is crafted with love, care and precision. Each is a beautiful work of art to be worn and to be collected... timeless clothing that surpasses the test of time...
Aside from designing eco clothing, I work with indigenous Amazon artisans since 2010. ORG by vio was created as an umbrella for promoting Amazon culture, protection of the rainforest and selling Amazon crafts. We work in partnership with artisans in the Amazon to develop designer collections of seed, fiber and natural rubber goods as a source for a sustainable economy. The purchase of high design and quality Amazon accessories contributes directly to Amazon communities and helps protect their culture and territories, allowing them to remain in their land as protectors of the forest and determine their own destiny.
Creating beautiful clothes made with the Earth, people and all living things in mind stems from my lifelong commitment to living consciously since my foundation: from my socially-conscious parents, my education at the United Nations International School in NYC, growing up with a multitude of cultures around me, and travel... seeing the beauty and delicious flavors and sites.
It is a lifestyle to me, not a fad, a job, fashion, or about being "Green"... it goes all the way to the way I see the World and why we are here. Like native cultures have taught, it is about thinking Seven Generations ahead and being conscious about the choices we make, so that future generations can enjoy this beautiful paradise we call Earth!
My commitment is ingrained in my personal choices... I live in a fully converted '52 modern 1000 sq. ft Solar home that produces energy for my home and for the electric grid (no electric bills), no gas in my house at all, passive solar water heating... about to get a full electric Tesla vehicle to run off my solar panels at home, and for now drive a Prius since 2001 (two models in almost 10 years!). I eat organic, buy local as much as possible... recycle, reuse... skate on my old school quads and bike as transportation in town... I am involved with environmental and social causes... I have been doing my Eco- clothing line since 1993 with six years in between as Senior Designer of Women's Sportswear at Patagonia - the pioneer in Eco-business since 1996, because its values were in tune with mine... I live an almost zero carbon footprint life, if it weren't for my Prius, my traveling once in a while and my love for eating out to taste the flavors of the World.
I am not patting myself on the back! I am just fully committed to making the choices in my life that are in tune with my values and concerns, so I live my talk with integrity!
We can't wait for our governments and systems to fix all the problems. We are all responsible and must transform the way we live our lives to live in harmony with Nature.
To live consciously and make decisions that reflect your values and ideals for a healthy World and pass on the inspiration.
Name a couple of your green actions.
