I was so pleased that Clothing Artisan Violeta Villacorta reached out to hip me to her current creative design project. It's a collaboration with indigenous communities of the Amazon promoting their arts and crafts by incorporating their millenary work into contemporary designs as a means to generate a sustainable economy for the stewards of the most biodiverse ecosystem. Vio says, "she created the Cofán Project because she is inspired by the Amazon's beauty and people's connection to the environment as it is a part of their spirit and soul. The Amazon is extremely fragile and vital to our survival as a planet and I want to continue to work with these protectors of our environment that give us the clean air etc., The people of the Amazon are rich in culture, live in harmony with Mother Nature and connect us to each other universally."
I so look forward to meeting Vio on my next trip out to Cali, that's if I am quick enough to catch up with this Eco-Herione... Check the Video

Violeta Villacorta spent six years as a senior designer for Patagonia which was a great fit given their mutual environmental and social values. After Patagonia Vio went back to her roots specializing in custom and one of a kind clothing made with hemp, jute, organic cotton, raw and vintage silks, fine linen, recycled and re-purposed materials and garments, hand embroidered in raffia straw. Vio said "Each piece is crafted with love, care and precision. Each is a beautiful work of art to be worn and to be collected... timeless clothing that surpasses the test of time.
