A big thank you goes to Peppermint Magazine for allowing me to present this award on their behalf...
Checking my ego at the doors of HBO studios for the Media That Matters Film Festival 2009 I was humbled and welcomed by a powerful room full of people that really give a damn about our social rights, the environment, a true democracy and how they are all connected. Arts Engine/Media That Matters supports, produces, and distributes independent media of consequence and promotes the use of independent media by advocates, educators and the general public. They have opened my eyes and heart to the importance and the need of static free outlets for independent media.
I was also given the honor of presenting the Rethinking Resources Award to "The Secret Life Of Paper" an educational documentary; Directed By Virginia Ramsey, Brian Ohl, Eleanor Saunders, Produced By Inform Inc.
The United States consumes over 99 million tons of paper every year. By recycling only half of this amount, this country contributes to the destruction of forests and the warming of our planet. The Secret Life of Paper examined this critical issue, illustrating the central importance of individual consumer choices in contributing to the "greening" of our planet.
