I take my espresso very seriously and up until yesterday I had been haunted with guilt that most things in my life were eco-friendly but my coffee wasn't. I tried so many sustainable, fair trade, organic coffees but no brand or grind was working in my espresso machine, the taste was jus' not there.
While in Whole Foods I spotted an old favorite Lavazza and noticed that they came out with a new coffee called Lavazza "Tierra" that's 100% sustainable and Rainforest Alliance Certified. I am proud to say that Lavazza came through for a brotha and had my taste buds dancin' like ReRun on What's Happening;
The Lavazza family has always focused heavily on human, environmental and cultural assets — a focus which has been crystallised in concrete actions taken in Italy and coffee-producing countries, in which the coffee crisis has drawn the eyes of the world to the hardships faced by coffee growers.
As early as 1935, Luigi Lavazza adamantly expressed his disapproval of the practice of using unsold coffee as fuel ("I will not live in a world that destroys the riches of nature!" he used to say). Today, Lavazza is more committed than ever before towards promoting sustainable development, in areas in which it owns production plants and subsidiaries, as well as in coffee-producing countries from which it sources its green coffee.
What sustainability means to Lavazza
In its constant commitment to product quality, Lavazza engages in activities aimed at improving living conditions and social and production facilities in areas such as Africa and Central and South America, where coffee production plays a decisive role in the national economy.
