A couple of days ago I had the pleasure of chillin' with Kate McGregor of NYC's fab Eco-Boutique
"Kaight". Kate and I strolled across the street from Kaight to a hot lil', non-stereotypical Jamaican bar/restaurant called
Spur Tree, I ordered a Guinness (brotha is just so macho, yeah right) and Miss Kate had a Ting Aling(so ecoista). Kate and I had lots to talk and laugh about( I can't tell what about or I would have to kill you) I can only share the Eco-stuff.hahaha
Eco Hustler: Will you please tell us a lil' about yourself and how you entered
the fashion industry?
Kate McGregor: Owning a boutique in NYC had been a dream of mine when I was a kid,
growing up in Ohio. I ended up moving to NYC 8 years ago to be a
journalist. While I loved working as a reporter and editor, I was always
haunted by my childhood dream.
EH: And what inspired you to open an Eco-Boutique?
KM: About three years ago, I reached a point where I really wanted to start
consuming in a more thoughtful way. I wanted to have more of a connection
to the things I was buying and I wanted to feel like I was investing in
more than just a sweater or a new pair of jeans. As I start to search for
clothes with a more meaningful story behind them -- ethically-made and
made with organic or sustainable textiles -- I found that while there were
a growing number of options out there, they were hard to find. At the
time, there were a couple of online shopping sites catering to
eco-friendly clothing, but there were no stores. Hence, Kaight grew out of
both a personal need as well as a way to satisfy my dream of having a
store.

EH: What makes Kaight the go to spot for eco-fashion?
KM: Kaight stocks the hottest designers in the green space. Our selection
includes domestic and international brands. We also have developed strong
relationships with many of our vendors so that we have exclusive styles
that customers can't get anywhere else.
EH: What can the fashion industry due to be more sustainable?
KM: The fashion industry needs a major overhaul. There is so much the fashion
industry can do, from the textiles they use to how they manufacture and
how they market their products.
EH: What advice would you have offer a non-green person?
KM: Educate yourself!
Below are jus' a few of the Heavy Weight Eco-Designers that are stocked at Kaight:
Eairth, John Patrick Organic,EDUN, Linda Loudermilk, Stewart+Brown, Lulu Frost, Kyumi, Ashley Watson, Grace & amp, Cello, Lara Miller, Good Society, Loomstate...
